From Sr Francoise-Therese (Leonie) to Sr Marie of the Sacred Heart - June 19, 1938

V + J! From our Caen monastery this 19th June 1938

Beloved little sister,

I’m so pleased to write to you, especially in this the year of your golden jubilee, to wish you a happy and most holy feast day. And the blessed feast in eternity can’t be very far away at our age. Which of us two will go first? Only God knows. I don’t think we’ll be far apart and what’s more, neither one of us is afraid of the Divine Thief. We are resolutely waiting for Him, having languished after Him for so long. I feel as bold as a tiny child, and that’s why I’m not afraid.

Darling little Mamma, I’m so touched by your deep concern for your poor little visitandine. I’m much better. As for my rheumatism, my stick has been idle with this warm weather and all the care I’ve been given. As you so rightly said, our Mother is always looking to relieve this little old lady’s suffering. It’s my chest that is often very painful because my ribs are knitting together, and my backbone is also playing tricks on me. I expect I’ll look all unshapely and hideous before I die. Blessed be God through thick and thin! All this is nothing compared with your many sufferings, darling Godmother [Marie, Thérèse’s godmother]. I’m just a wimp. My next Communion will be for you. Tell little Mother and Céline to give you a kiss from me,

Sr Françoise-Thérèse

When will the fine speeches from the Congress be published? They are being very long in coming.

I’ll have been professed for 38 years on 2nd July. Spare a little prayer for me, please.

For at least a month now, I’ve been attending all Community exercises except Matins. It feels so good! I could obviously never be a Trappistine; I would soon contract jaundice. I’m eating very well and heartily. I often have sleepless nights due to my old age. My whole body shakes now, but I’m feeling better.
