From Sr Francoise-Therese (Leonie) to her three Carmelite sisters - December 25th 1938

V + J! From our Caen monastery this Christmas! Ah, Christmas is such a wonderful feast!

[25th December 1938]

How great it is to exchange our warm wishes on this beloved day, don’t you agree, darling little sisters? Your kind letters were such a lovely and reassuring feast for my heart! Our beloved Godmother [Marie, Thérèse’s godmother] shouldn’t tire herself by writing to me. I consider her last letter with all its priceless teachings almost like her testament as a mother, so I’m applying myself to them wholeheartedly and with the submission of a child.

What a wonderful life your dear Sister Marie of Jesus led. She is an inspiration to us all. I’m valiantly bearing the cold, you’ll be pleased to hear! I’m as spoilt and pampered as can be in this heated cell.

Our dear Mother wants our letters to go this evening, so I’ll quickly say once more that I love you, although you’ve always known this, and I’ll write to you again soon. When will all four of us be up above! Who will deliver me from this mortal body!

Your very poor little

Sr Françoise-Thérèse
