From sr Francoise-Therese (Leonie) to Mother Agnes of Jesus – January 15, 1939

V + J! From our Caen monastery this 15th January 1939

Beloved little sister and mamma,

Happy and holy feast day! All three of us have the infinite joy again this year of being able to tell you how much we love you, and this love will grow until we are reunited in eternal bliss. We can’t have long left at our age, God willing.

General de Castelnau and his grand-daughter will convey my feast day wishes to you. As you can see, this is rather special, so give them a warm welcome. I hope they will be pleased with their pilgrimage. They love our little saint so very much.

Our darling eldest sister is still making her painful climb to Calvary. Sweet Jesus, who is despised with a hellish hatred, has chosen her to be His beloved victim. I’m convinced that she will go straight to heaven. As for me, I’m nothing but a poor wimp, crawling along as best I can with rheumatism in my left foot. Otherwise, I’m quite well. Who knows, perhaps I’ll see the end of the world, though I’d rather not.

Doting little Mamma, the pretty portrait of our angelic little novice 50 years ago, which you kindly sent to our Mother, brought us great pleasure. Alas, God will soon ask us to make a very great and costly sacrifice, one that you will share in with us, I’m sure. Having been Superior for six years, our beloved and tirelessly devoted Mother will have to stand down after Ascension this year, which is a bitter blow. I would be so happy to be able to die in her arms, but I’m not worthy of it. I’m being much better at keeping my retreat resolutions, and this strengthens my soul enormously.

Dear Srs Marguerite-Agnès and Joseph-Marie join me in sending you best wishes for a happy feast day.

I send all my daughterly love, little Mamma, and offer you our most precious belonging, which is Jesus, our one true love, in my traditional bouquet of Communions.
