From Sr Francoise-Therese (Leonie) to her three Carmelite sisters - May 30th 1939

V + J! From our Caen monastery this 30th May 1939

Beloved little sisters,

For me, Pentecost is the feast of feasts! The Holy Spirit is the soul of our souls. He prays for us in unutterable groanings because without Him, we are incapable of pronouncing the holy name of Jesus productively. How I love this dependence! He is the source of all my strength.

I’m so happy that I’m just a poor insignificant creature and that He is my only treasure.

I can’t forget my little Sister-friend [Sr Marie of the Holy Spirit], for it was her feast day, or Sister Marie of the Trinity, the little victim of Jesus crucified. She can count on having a Communion from her little visitandine Sister on her feast day. If only you knew, darling sisters, what a treasure of virtue we have in our new Mother. We love her ever so much and what’s more, no matter who our Superiors are, are they not always organs of the Holy Spirit, and the representatives of Jesus on earth? Long live the spirit of faith and spiritual childhood! Together with little Thérèse, I love saying, “You fill me with joy, O Lord, in all that You do!”

I’m growing frailer and frailer. My bones are growing stiff. No position is comfortable anymore. I’m such a burden for the Community! And to think I could go on like this until I’m a hundred! What a catastrophe! I can only surrender myself to God’s will. I’m so far from being generous like our darling Godmother [Marie, Thérèse’s godmother], wimp that I am.

We are never apart, my increasingly beloved sisters. What union is ours! It’s already a foretaste of eternal bliss.

Sr Fse-Thérèse
