From Sr Francoise-Therese (Leonie) to Sr Genevieve (Celine) - July 9, 1939

V + J! From our Caen monastery this 9th July 1939

Darling Céline,

Your affectionate little note brought joy to my heart. Thérèse Pougheol’s religious name is Sr Marie-Cécile. She loves you very much. The fact that you share in her grief is a great comfort to her at this trying time, and also to her family, who have always shown us deep affection in all circumstances. I fully understand how tiring you must find all these visits from Princes of Holy Church. We feel the same, but they bring God immense and divine glory. Remember, celebrations here below can never be untainted. This is most fortunate because otherwise, having been created for happiness, we would easily forget the indescribable joys of heaven.

Our dear Mother’s feast day celebrations have been fixed for 9thand 10thAugust. Her health is very, very fragile because six months ago, she had to undergo a terrible operation. Thankfully, having chosen her to be our Mother, God protected our Treasure. We appreciate her more and more and she has everybody’s heart in her hands, for we took a great liking to her. She sets us such a fine example, as does our former Mother Superior, who used to be one of our new Mother’s novices, I think, so it makes it all the more lovely! – I’ll write to you again in a few days, beloved little sister. I so love the feast of 6th August. “They saw Jesus standing alone.”

I have instructed our dear Mother not to look at anything before her feast day. What a lot of fitting presents!

We’ll be in touch soon, my inseparable beloved. I remain with my dearest trio in a fusion that will reach fulfilment in glory

Sr Françoise-Thérèse
