Sr Françoise-Thérèse Martin to her two Carmelite sisters

V + J! From our Caen monastery this 20th January 1940

Beloved little sisters,

What an ineffable union! What peace! Despite our immense grief we can tell our beloved Godmother [Marie, Thérèse’s godmother] is in glory. What a relief! Her long martyrdom is over. I can’t pray for her, but pray to both her and her holy little goddaughter. She will impart a great shower of heavenly roses to our two Mother Agneses, and this brings me great comfort. Our dear Mother insists on sending one of our turn sisters to represent the community at the funeral, which shows how much we venerate our beloved departed. We have reason to count her as one of our dearest protectors in heaven.

Today’s General Communion was held for her. You wouldn’t believe, darling little sisters, how much affection I’m being shown at this time of great mourning. We certainly do receive much more than a hundredfold here below.

I remain your ever-faithful poor little visitandine,

Sr Françoise-Thérèse
