From Sr Francoise-Therese (Leonie) to Sr Genevieve (Celine) - August 6, 1940

V + J! From our Caen monastery this 6th August 1940

Darling Céline,

Let us lift up our hearts! O my King, when shall I see You in Your glory? The time for atonement has come for our poor dear France, a time which, alas, she has undoubtedly deserved. May she at last open her eyes. Victory will come to us from our God and all-merciful Saviour, but it will come at a high price and we are not out of the woods yet. We can say in all truth, as in Joan of Arc’s time, “The Kingdom is in a pitiful state.”

Much-loved little sister, this letter is going to seem very bleak to you, but you see, it’s as though I can see things as they really are and it does me good to tell you all this. I can tell that you understand me, and the same goes for little Mamma, whom I love more and more. I have as much daughterly as sisterly affection for her.

Happy and very holy feast day, little sister. In this valley of tears we can comfort Jesus through our suffering. In heaven, we will only be able to receive. This is what reconciles me to life. You can count on having a Communion from me, darling little sister. From your Léonie who loves you with all her heart,

Sr Françoise-Thérèse
