From Sr Francoise-Therese (Leonie) to Sr Genevieve (Celine) - August 15th 1940

V + J! From our Caen monastery this 15th August 1940

Darling little Céline,

Your comforting letter has done me good. But no, we haven’t seen this photo before, so I’m pleased to have it!

I would like news of our Holy Father (our Angelic Pastor). We love him so very dearly . . . Did you know I received his blessing for the fortieth anniversary of my profession? Have you heard from the soldiers you are looking after and in particular from Father Pierre Leriche?

I would like to know what you think of the Christ on the Cross made by Friar Marie-Bernard, from the Trappist monastery in Soligny-La-Trappe. We think it very beautiful; you can tell it’s the masterpiece of a saint, can’t you?

Has the little Sister who had the operation fully recovered?

Goodbye, much-loved little sisters. Our hearts and souls are truly fused in union.

Sr Françoise-Thérèse B.B.G.

Beloved little Mamma, when you next have an opportunity, would you send us copies of all the propaganda items you have? Our dear and most generous Mother is all but tongue-tied; she fears being indiscreet. I saw that she wanted to pay for them, but I emphatically persuaded her to the contrary, saying that Godmother would be very angry with her goddaughter and would give her a good scolding if she ever did anything of the sort.
