From sr Francoise-Therese (Leonie) to Mother Agnes of Jesus – November 10, 1940

V + J! From our Caen monastery this 10th November 1940

Darling Mamma

Your very kind and comforting little note is helping me bear the dreaded trial we are now facing. Our Mother is the chosen victim of our divine priest. She is being so generous and is perfectly surrendered. It would be most ungrateful if we didn’t imitate her in every respect because she knows by experience what terrible suffering awaits her.

The doctor who has to operate on her (it’s the fourth time at least) is very good. But, alas, he doesn’t practice his faith, unfortunately. We would so like him to convert, because he’s very fond of the community and shows great devotion to our sorely tried Mother. How I’d like our little Thérèse to convert him. We believe it’s the thought of confessing that is deterring him. It’s a real problem for many souls.

Much-loved little sisters, we are closely united in our shared sacrifice. It is what Jesus wants for the salvation of our dear France, over whom He reigns supreme. As for Mary, who is His Mother and ours, France is also her kingdom by right. Hell and it minions will never snatch it from their blessed and almighty hands.

Sr Françoise-Thérèse
