From sr Genevieve (Celine) to Mother Agnes of Jesus – April 30, 1907

30th April 07

     Darling Little Mother,

Your retreat is a sad time for me, and seems very long now that ‘Jouvenot’1 has stopped giving me excuses to see you. Still, perhaps there’ll be a letter from him tomorrow. I really hope so, as I don’t mind having extra work when it gives me the opportunity to see you and give you a hug. I love you so much, darling little Mamma!

The other day, it was a real joy to be able to come and talk to you about ‘Jouvenot’ in the morning. I’ll never forget the little scene that took place. I could see you from behind, tidying your little papers and blotter. I suddenly felt 30 years younger. I could see you in our old house in Alençon, as if you were home from the Visitation for the holidays. And you were such a sweet, gentle little Mother!

You said to me, “It’s an extension of my retreat being with my little Céline.” I kept these words in my heart, like a soothing balm! It makes me so happy to feel loved, to see I’m not a burden or unwanted. When we’re all together, it’s as though we are one and the same person.

The little girl is very sweet. [No doubt a postulant] I don’t know why, but I felt sorry for her, and deep down I don’t think we know whether she has the calling! I’d like to know what God thinks. Perhaps we would be very surprised; perhaps those with high intelligence are less pleasing to Him than our little wildflower, with her rustic charm. I don’t think things are all that bad. Oh, no, things aren’t that bad and, as Thérèse once said, we were all born wearing crowns.

I send you a big kiss, darling little Mother

Your little ‘daughter’ who loves you with all her heart

Please give me my monthly permissions. On what day are you resuming our spiritual direction?
