Darling little sister,

What can I say on the eve of such a wonderful day? My heart melts in gratitude and admiration before such a great grace. It is the crowning of all those granted to our family. This glory belongs to you and to no one else. Your childhood was spent in tears, your vocation has been more tested than ours, and you have suffered more, so now you ought to receive more if that is possible. Oh, if only you could see the celebration in heaven! The one on earth is veiled in sadness. Your family won’t be around you, and the outward pomp of the ceremony could have had more splendour, but all these tests are deliberate and have been permitted by Jesus. He is putting the finishing touches to His bride’s dress. Your soul is so beautiful, darling little sister! The angels are gazing upon it in rapture. I should imagine that they bow before a soul pronouncing the holy vows of Poverty, Chastity, and Obedience for the first time. What more can a poor creature offer, after all? It’s all we have; we possess nothing else. In giving these gifts, we are giving of ourselves, and unreservedly.

Beloved sister, your turn has come to give the heavenly and earthly Church this wonderful spectacle. As I said earlier, how wonderful the celebration will be in heaven!

Papa, Mamma, our four darlings, Thérèse, and our dear Aunts will all be with you. How they’ll shower you in graces! Please don’t forget your little Céline, your companion in exile and tears. Ask Jesus to give me a love like Thérèse’s, and to help me resemble her.

I in turn won’t forget you. Tomorrow and Monday we’re having the Bl. Sacrament exposed in the oratory, and it is my turn to watch Jesus at mealtimes. This is a great honour, because these turns come around less than once a year. It’s very sweet being alone with Jesus, and I’ll certainly think of you! What a wonderful union it will be! My heart is overflowing. I would like my soul to be joined with yours, but it’s impossible on earth, so I’ll leave you yet without really leaving you. I love you, you know. I’ve blessed your crown, kissed it and held it up before the miraculous Bl. Virgin (the family statue).

Goodbye, darling sister. Soon we’ll be in heaven.

Your little sister

Sr Madeleine of Jesus recommends herself to your prayers. She never stops talking about you. Pray also for our Mother. My affectionate respects to your kind Mothers.
