Darling little sister,

I’m writing a very brief note to tell you that I love you and that I’m thinking of you. Your birthday on 3rd June didn’t go unnoticed. Oh, if only you knew how much you mean to me, darling Léonie!

We are very pleased with our new big little Mother, but as we knew our tree, its fruit doesn’t surprise us. I photographed her with Little Mother and we’re sending you the photograph together with another one of us 3 that was taken the day before we testified, on 7th May. Look how old and ugly we’ve become! Our Mother makes the best impression with her 27 springs. Speaking of photography, for 4th April, “Little Mother” decided to send the “portrait of us 6” to Uncle. He has never said anything about it, which means he doesn’t approve of it. His conduct in this matter pains us deeply. He likes pictures of Thérèse that we think are abominable just because I didn’t draw them. Ah, we shouldn’t work for God’s creatures! (Don’t you mention this to him, either.)

My heels were very painful during the really hot weather. The whole sole of the foot is inflamed, so I followed my Léonie’s treatment. Not having a bath, I used one of the hollow stones where we do the washing. The cold water treatment worked very well. I haven’t yet tried the pea flowers. (Should the compresses be cold or hot?) We sent someone into town to buy some, but they didn’t find any, so we set about picking some from our meadow, which we enjoyed doing.

When you next write to us, I would be glad if you would copy down for me the passages in which our Lord tells Bl. Margaret Mary that His Heart will appear on the standards and that the Sacred Heart will reign. I’d like to look deeper into this matter and have the text.

I love you with all my heart.

Your little Céline
