Darling little sister,

I’m writing you two lines to tell you that the lady who is coming to see you is Mrs Hassebroucq, a Belgian, accompanied by her three daughters. She’s an extremely devoted soul and she is being very helpful to us. She is looking after all our furniture at her house (because we no longer have a monastery in Belgium. The owner took it back, saying it was deteriorating as a result of not being used). She sends us what we desire when we request it, and at her own expense. She only knows us because she loves Thérèse very much. She insists on seeing you so that she can meet all the sisters of “the little saint”. She made us a silver reliquary for us to keep one of Thérèse’s teeth in.

The oath ceremony took place on Friday. It was very solemn. There must have been at least ten priests there. We had dressed a small altar above the choir near the grate, and placed on it the New Testament that Thérèse carried on her heart. After a roll call of all the witnesses in Latin, we took turns to go and swear the oath. All these Church ceremonies are so grand!

Our Mother is currently before the Court. It’s her 3rd day of questioning. She’s very tired. Still, we must work hard before being able to harvest the fruit.

We have a lot of work to do. We’re constantly being paid visits from Bishops and other important figures. Tomorrow it’s the turn of Rev. Fr Haegy, the consultant for the S. Congregation of Rites in Rome, to come on pilgrimage here.

The refectory bell is ringing. With all my love and kisses.

Your Céline

Geneviève of St Teresa
