From sr Genevieve (Celine) to sr Francoise-Therese (Leonie) - July 19, 1911

Darling little sister,

I’m simply sending you a note via Mr Besnard to send you my love and thank you for your kind letter. I’m delighted you’re pleased with the portrait printed in three-colours. It will be appreciated, I think.

What you said about the eyes is very true. I knew that Thérèse didn’t have brown eyes; they were exactly the same shade as mine. As you can see, I didn’t have to go far in search of a model. They were what you would call sea-green eyes, but as the colour is neither blue, grey, brown nor green, it’s difficult to convey. However, I managed in my painting, but you understand that the mechanical process of three-colour printing couldn’t reproduce this in-between colour. Many others haven’t come out, either, for instance the background is the same colour as her scapular, and there are many other little things that I have to put up with. You reassured me by saying that people who know about such things are well aware that a young person’s eyes are never a light, reddish-brown like in this three-colour print. Only old people have eyes like that, so they’ll realise that her eyes were not absolutely brown.

But that’s enough about eyes. You’ll be angry if you have nothing else before your eyes! Concerning Sr Marie-Philomène’s picture, it’s addressed to one of your Sisters who is from Langrune; a Turn Sister, I think, so you don’t have far to go to deliver the message.

We have a fine doctor’s certificate for the baby who was brought back to life. Reading between the lines, you can tell that he saw the baby well and truly dead, but as nobody can prove this, he can’t affirm it either. Nevertheless, it’s a lovely story and Mgr de Teil sincerely believes it’s true even if we can’t use it.

Two recent mail deliveries brought news of 7 or 8 miracles each, some of which are really remarkable and authentic. We’re used to such things now!

With all my love and kisses

Your little sister who loves you

Sr Geneviève of St Teresa

With this letter, our Mother is sending you some three-coloured prints. She, Sr M. of the S.H. and I send you our love.

Written by Sr M. of the Sacred Heart:

Little sister Sr Geneviève has forgotten one very important piece of news: Marie Hassebroucq is joining the Carmel of Lisieux on 6th August! Her retreat revealed God’s will to her. She is in Belgium at the moment with her mother to say goodbye to her family. She will no doubt write to the Visitation shortly.
