Darling little sister,

After Advent, it’s such a pleasure to be reunited again, and yet it’s true that we are never apart since we’re united in Jesus, and He binds us all in love.

Last night we had a lovely Mass said by a lieutenant priest. He launched into the Gloria in such powerful voice that it could have woken a whole army.

He has the character of a true Knight, being fearless and irreproachable. He has been saying Mass for the Community this past week while our chaplain has been keeping to his bedroom, and has taken him Holy Communion every day. On the 1st day, as he was leaving the sacristy, he launched into the Miserere with such gusto that the Sacristan said to herself, “He won’t go far like that!” She was mistaken. At the Chapel door, Pierre respectfully said to the priest, “Father, it is not the custom to chant in the street.” “What if it’s mine?” he replied. “Someone might say something!” “I’d like to see that! And I’ll pray twice as loud!” Which he did. Pierre was left completely speechless. Half an hour later, with a basket over one arm, the soldier was at the market haggling over vegetables with some dear ladies. We have to ask ourselves, what times are we living in? Everything is topsy-turvy; everything is “pandemonium”. It can’t go on like this and I do believe we’re coming to the end of the world. The reign of the beast is upon us and my one prayer to God is, “Your kingdom come, Your will be done”. Only He knows how it will come about, so I would prefer not to give Him any recommendations. This thought is what brings me peace, otherwise I would be too upset by everything that is happening.

Goodbye, little Léonie. I wish you a happy New Year. Make sure you put it to God’s use alone, and compensate Him for all that the world and the devil are plundering from Him.

I send you all my love

Sr Geneviève of the Holy Face u.c.n.

Present my best wishes to your dear Mothers.

Who was our house-maid when Thérèse joined the Carmel?
