Darling little sister,

I’ve come to say goodbye before Lent. I don’t have much to tell you since I last wrote on 29th January other than that I love you very, very much and that I think of you very often.

You’ve no doubt heard that Sr Marie of the Angels (Mademoiselle de Chaumontel) is celebrating her fiftieth anniversary on 9th April. She is looking forward to the ceremony very much, much more than I would be if I was her! His Lordship will preside the celebration and the novices are preparing a little play for him. It is one that our Mother wrote. I haven’t read it. I don’t even know what it’s called; it’s a surprise. I’ve only seen the décor, because I’ve been painting it. It has kept me very busy since our Mother’s feast day, which is a time when I usually have a little respite.

Did you know that we had all our rabbits and fine young hens stolen a fortnight ago? We suspect an employee who works here sometimes. There was a group of them. The Police Superintendant said he recognised the footprints of a soldier. The thieves opened all the doors of the outbuildings that look onto the garden. His Lordship told us to raise the wall on the side of Mr and Mrs Fleuriot’s property, because that’s where they came in. Yet we can’t find the right materials and we’re going to build a barrier of wooden planks on top of the wall so that it’s as high as the tall enclosure wall.

Our dear little saint is still continuing her shower of miracles. Yesterday we received 512 letters.

Goodbye, darling little sister. I send you all my love and kisses
