                                                                 27th September 1927

Darling little sister,

I don’t have time to write much today, because I’m in the midst of preparing for the great celebration on the 30th, and as I’m no longer a spring chicken, I must begin several days in advance and do a bit each day. You know that I still take care of the Bl. Virgin’s oratory next to Little Thérèse’s cell and it’s no mean feat decorating it “à la Céline” as people say here!

Our Mother has left me the pleasure of sending you the plans for the future Basilica that we’ve just received. We won’t show them to anyone until the day when, having received the Holy Father’s support for the fundraising campaign, we can record it in the Annals and launch it with the Pope’s signature.

You can see how pretty, grandiose and simple it is all at once. It’s both pure and rich. This edifice will sit on top of the Way of the Cross, as I told you. You can make out a few stations at the edges, but the drawing isn’t very detailed yet, and its position is simply outlined. At the top of the central staircase, under the Baldachin, will be the 14th station; Jesus in the Tomb.

There will be a vast expanse of space between the baldachin and the basilica porch. This will be an immense forecourt surrounded by cloisters, where processions can be held when it’s raining. At an altar under the baldachin, pilgrims will be able to attend open air Masses in the forecourt and on the Way of the Cross. It is said that it’ll look splendid dominating the whole valley. It’s only 500 metres from the Carmel, so we’ll see it very well.

Darling little sister, pray that God will deliver us from our oppressors and give us the financial means to put this fine plan into action.

I see I’ve filled the 4 pages despite what I said at the beginning. Happy feast day on the 30th!

I fervently join your prayers for your Mother’s brother.

Your little Céline, who sends you all her love

Sr Geneviève of the Holy Face
