Darling little sister,

I’m writing to wish you a happy feast day. Oh, how happy I’d be if I could give you a kiss that day! But it will have to wait until we’re in heaven.

I’m very glad that your poor feet are better. Now you’ll be able to walk around, unless like me you quickly grow tired from “spinning about” as we say here, and yet the sort of work that I do often obliges me to stay standing for long periods.

The painting that we showed in the Annals is by an Italian artist, but his Thérèse is so old and ugly that I altered her so that the painting wouldn’t be a complete loss. We decided that it would be good enough to put in the Chaplains’ house. Then, our Mother had me correct the Child Jesus in it, and I made Him resemble the little pink Baby Jesus figurine that Thérèse had. After that, I was told to redo the flowers. Still, as it (the painting) was quite attractive, especially in terms of the colours, we printed it in the Annals. Since then, I’ve made further alterations, to the extent that it will be like Jeannot’s knife (the handle on which was replaced, followed by the blade). Nothing will be left of the old painting! Pray that I’ll be converted as I convert other people’s work into my own.

I hardly need to tell you about our high hopes, because they will no doubt be the favourite topic of conversation for our Mother and Sr Marie of the Sacred Heart. They will tell you that workmen should be on site by the end of February, because the entrepreneur has been chosen. Great entrepreneurs are great gentlemen who are equal to Architects. Ours is one of the top graduates of polytechnic school. He is 45 years old, sincere and active, which is what we need. Let’s hope that we won’t be deceived anymore.

Goodbye, beloved little sister. Of course I’ll offer you the gift of Jesus in my Communion on the 29th.

Your little sister
