Dear little sister,

Happy feast day once again, seeing as I’m writing to you on 29th January. This morning, the Carmelite Mass was said for you and your three very loving little sisters took Communion for you.

The reason I’m writing is this: we’re selling the “Wheelwright” house that used to be let out to the Lerebour family and was so much hassle for our dear father. It has been costing us double or triple what it used to. We’ve earned 2,000 frs in rent and spent 10,000 on repairs. We’re finally selling it. Our uncle left it to me as part of my inheritance, but we need your signature on the contract anyway. I don’t know why, seeing as our inheritances have been sorted out, with yours staying at the Visitation and ours at the Carmel once we’re gone. Do you have papers stipulating this, and saying that little Thérèse’s share will be left to the Carmel, as we agreed together after she died? I think you stated this in your will, but I don’t understand such matters at all. What I understand is that I love you with all my heart and I can feel it.

Your little Céline

I’m enclosing the bursar’s note concerning the signatures. Please send the signed contract back to us as soon as you can by registered post. With thanks to you and your dear Mothers.
