Dear little Sister,

Alleluia! Here we are once again reunited to celebrate the wonderful feast of Easter with the Church on earth. Our song is one of exile but it is so pleasing to Jesus! It is hailed in heaven, but also very much so on earth! Since our Beloved intends us to be in that number, we must embrace our lot. I personally feel that I am growing wiser, or rather, Jesus has taken pity on me and is helping me to bear exile. He has His designs, certainly, and we must leave Him to them.

How was your Lent, dear little Léonie? Here, the senior Sisters are the most robust ones and Thérèse’s 3 sisters remain 3 pillars of observance. To tell you the truth, only our Mother follows the fast to the letter. As for me, I have a bit of cheese and soup in the evenings. Sister Marie of the S.H. has a bit of milk, but you should see how brave our eldest sister is being! Crippled though she is, and unable to walk unaided, she was at the Office last night, at 3 o’clock in the morning. She is an example to us all. I know that these things depend on people’s characters, as our Mother says. Most of us would feel lost if we were outside the rule, and must follow the best part of the community at all costs. Doing so is a blessing. Those who, on the contrary, feel compelled to do differently from everyone else are so miserable! It is true that several Sisters are forbidden from fasting for good reasons, and that is another source of merit.

This morning, our Mother shared the following reflection with us as a spiritual bouquet: “Those of you who seek Jesus of Nazareth, do not be afraid.” It is true that we have nothing to fear when we seek Jesus, even if we don’t find Him. What a comforting thought! I have long found this other passage from the Gospel delightful: “Do not be afraid, for I am with you.” Yes, when He is with us, there’s nothing to fear, and He is the One we seek, the One who will come to meet us, and the One who will judge us. What bliss!

Goodbye, little Léonie. Keep praying for me, as I have a huge workload from now until our celebrations.

Your loving little sister
