Dear little sister,

You should have received your little Christmas gift by now, the famous little Catechism you’ve been looking forward to for so long. Are you pleased with it? Is it what you expected? To tell you the truth, it isn’t meant for us, just as the booklet about imitating her isn’t made for us because we understand our Thérèse ever so well. These publications are instead meant to respond to the objections that have been raised following the publishing of material that misrepresents our little saint’s ideas. And yet, I can assure you that this little Catechism has done good to those of our Sisters who worked on it with me. So I hope you’ll be pleased with it, even though you don’t need it.

I spent the feast of Christmas much like the weather, that is to say, in fog. I have a cold that is making me very tired. It is all the more troublesome because it isn’t serious. When you are really ill, you often suffer less than from little setbacks like these that stop you in your tracks, so I have hardly any energy. Yet the extremely busy weeks are here, so I’ll have to set my nose to the grindstone because our Mother’s feast day is almost upon us, and as it’s very close to New Year’s Day and St Genevieve’s Day, I am very tied up. Still, we’ll manage, as we always do. This year was the 50th Christmas that our Mother celebrated in the Carmel. Then 6th April will be the 50th anniversary of her Reception of the Habit and finally the following year, on 8th May, there’ll be the whole shebang. I’ll admit that the prospect of all these celebrations doesn’t thrill me. I prefer life to be ordinary and monotone. Only one feast day counts in my eyes, and that is the day I’ll arrive in the Homeland, and see Jesus, Mary, Thérèse, our parents, and so on. Oh, the happiness will be too much! The wait is long, but it will come; that much is certain.

Happy New Year, darling little sister. I send you all my love. Your little Céline

Sr Geneviève of the Holy Face u.c.n.

Would you offer my respectful and affectionate wishes to your dear Mother? Enclosed are some small pictures that I was offered for Christmas, which I now gladly give to you.
