Dear little Léonie,

Another Christmas reunites us all on earth. The four of us certainly won’t celebrate many more. However there are no signs of any of us leaving and I don’t think that our dear Mother’s 50th anniversary will be marred by a death. I think all four of us will still be here, surrounding her with our wishes and affection. Our dear eldest sister is most edifying. She receives no comfort and even so, her face is always serene. Seeing her like this reminds me of this psalm passage, “I trusted in the Lord when I said, ‘I am greatly afflicted.’” Her powerlessness upsets our Mother and me deeply but our trust in God is only greater for it because He arranges our affairs extremely well, through means that seem contrary to the desired goal. So as far as I’m concerned, I surrender myself to Him like a little child, whatever happens and whatever befalls me.

Since our last retreat led by holy Father Desbuquois, one reflection has been helping me to forget myself. He said it in passing in his closing sermon, amid many others, and he certainly didn’t expect it to pierce my heart like a flaming dart. It is this quotation by Jesus: “I am going about my father’s business.” Oh, I too want to go about my Father’s business, and about Jesus’ business, not mine. It’s what I’m striving for with all my might and I ask Jesus to work this change within me. These words have often spun me around just as I was on the point of going “about my own business.”

Yet, darling little sister, it is time I wished you a happy and holy New Year. Our little Thérèse will fulfill the wishes that your Céline has for you. I’m sending you this little calendar. It’s too heavy; we’ll send it via someone. There’s one for Sr Marguerite-Agnes. We like them very much because they are in large print.

I send you my love, darling little sister

Sr Geneviève of the Holy Face

Offer my respectful and affectionate wishes to your dear Mothers.
