Dear little sister,

Your little letter brought me great pleasure. I wasn’t expecting one, but our Mother was; she was certain you would write to me for my anniversary.

However, your comment about the call to heaven is mean! God doesn’t usually call people in order and the young often overtake the old. For instance, Solange’s 10 month old little boy died from an “inner sickness” in just 12 hours. We don’t know any more than that.

As for our own call, I sincerely hope that you won’t experience the pain of losing us and that Jesus chooses you first. Poor little Léonie, what bliss heaven will be to you after all the storms you’ve endured! Yet God was so good to call us into His service.

I think that if I hadn’t had a religious vocation, I would always have regretted it. “Oh, how will I repay the Lord for all the blessings He has given me!” My heart is overflowing with gratitude. Help me, Léonie, to express it to Jesus.

I’m sending you a pious picture like the one I’m going to give to my Sisters. This statue of the risen Christ is very popular here. Very few are pretty. The cross He is holding is a standard, but it isn’t clear, so I had the picture printed without. It’s a bit large and cumbersome, so do what you like with it. There’s one for Sr Marguerite-Agnes in thanks for her little note. I send you all my love

Your little Céline
