Dear little sister,

It’s with joy that I wish you a happy feast day this year, because we have a pretty keepsake to give you, one that I’m sure will bring you great pleasure. I don’t want to describe it to you, for fear that you’ll read my letter before seeing it. I’ve long wanted little Léonie to be shown with our darling saint, and in a way that brings back sweet memories for her (It was the wash drawing of Thérèse’s confirmation). So, your little Céline has put her shoulder to the wheel for you!

What can I tell you, dear little sister? From an earthly point of view, I have no good news, because old age is marked with the melancholy of feeling powerless all the time. If I want to take a walk in the garden because I love nature, I come back exhausted. If I want to climb a staircase several times, my kidneys ache. If I want to carry an object that once seemed light to me, I have sore kidneys again. It’s the same for everything. I’m no good for anything anymore. Our Mother reminded me the other day that she is ten years younger than me and it’s true, yet there are so many things that I want to accomplish!

From a human point of view, all this makes the soul melancholy, but seeing our independence drain away bit by bit is very advantageous in terms of heaven and our sanctification. I think that accepting our powerlessness represents a gold mine when it comes to saving souls. So, I assure you, I’m doing everything I can to take advantage of this fact.

What about you, darling little sister? What’s your news? Do you tire easily like me or do you still have a bit of resistance? You’ll tell us everything in detail

I send you all my love. Your loving little sister
