Dear little sister,

I’m writing to say goodbye before Lent. We’ll be reunited again here below to sing Alleluia, but soon we’ll sing it in heaven in eternal Joy. Take heart! Our pilgrimage is almost over. Just a little longer and we’ll have reached the port.

At the moment, I should be on my Profession retreat, because I’ll be celebrating my 42nd anniversary on Thursday 24th, but there is work being done in the infirmary cell and next door, so my retreat has been postponed until May. Sr Marie of the Sacred Heart and I will take ours together, and finish on her fiftieth anniversary, as our dear eldest sister will have reached her Profession jubilee.

However, we do not regret having celebrated it on the anniversary of her joining the Carmel, because she is much frailer now. I also don’t regret not being on retreat at the moment as in previous years, because I have the flu and am feeling very tired. I suffered another bout that lasted for 3 months just before this one. Perhaps the one I have now will chase away the foul air!

Darling little sister, you saw Father Angelo yesterday. He’s an ardent admirer of our saint. He’s crafty, too, so we were a little afraid of him. We always fear that he’s hiding a little camera away somewhere and will photograph of things that we don’t want him to take! He snapped away to his heart’s content at Les Buissonnets without anyone noticing!

He told us that you were waiting for a reply concerning the jewels. It’s true that nobody replied to you. But yes, we are still very pleased with them and they are being used to decorate the Sacred Vessels at the Basilica. They represent a valuable resource for our Work.

Darling Léonie, what can I tell you? I’m hardly focused, and I don’t have any ideas . . . but I do have a heart to love God and Léonie with. And I use it, I assure you, because it’s not affected by the flu!

I send you a big fond kiss. Your little sister

Enclosed is a picture for you showing Noah extending his hand to the dove after it couldn’t find anywhere to perch on the bitter ocean of exile. God will soon make the same gesture for us.
