Darling little Léonie,

I can’t resist asking you for some details about Mrs Bigard. I have no memory of her at all, and I’d very much like to remember her because she’s famous now! Your letter aroused my curiosity because you say she spoke to us. So, was it at the Visitation chapel? Did we see her several times? What did she ask us so insistently for? What sort of a person was she? How old was her daughter? (I hear that she paid dearly for her project and that the Society, although it has flourished, was a Calvary to found.)

I can remember seeing no one but Mrs Besnel and her daughter Elise in Caen, having known them from St Vincent de Paul.

I’d be very grateful for more information on our relationship with the Bigard ladies. Their portraits must currently be on sale in Caen. I’d be very pleased to see one!

What a delightful letter you wrote us! Thank you, darling little sister.

We all thought of you on 11th April, St Leo’s day, and no one told you so, but you knew we’d never forget our Léonie’s feast day.

Your Céline
