Dear Léonie,

Thank you very much for your little letter on 15th August. It brought me great pleasure. I was glad you liked the photo of your Carmelite “trio”. Only, I forgot to write “personal” on the back. Would you do it for me? You see, we don’t want this photo to be seen. Do you have my stereo box? I think we gave it to you with the stereo slides of the Canonisation celebrations. It’s a plain cardboard box in the shape of book case.

For news on the Holy Father and several other matters of interest, I refer you to the enclosed sheet. Concerning the blessing on 2nd July, it is certain that you received it spiritually because we informed our very diligent distant Brother [Mgr Natucci] of the date. Alas, we haven’t heard from him.

I haven’t had any news from the soldiers to whom I wrote. Several are safe, I think. As for Fr Leriche, he is in unoccupied France and must have been demobilised by now, but whether he has returned to his parish I don’t know. He and his whole regiment have medals.

As for Father M. B.’s picture, his Face of Christ is the most beautiful piece he has done outside his statues of our saint. This picture is edifying, and speaks to sinners’ souls. Yet I’ll tell you that personally, I prefer the Holy Face with lowered eyes. This searching gaze of his Christ doesn’t show me my gentle and tender Beloved.

And now, we come to the question of the parcel for you. How shall we send it? What shall we put inside? It would be preferable if your dear Mother could make a list of what she would like, and our Mother will see what needs to be done about the payment afterwards. For the moment, when we next have an opportunity, we’ll send you what we can, because the statues sell out and it’s impossible at present to renew anything. In the meantime, keep enough supplies to make 200 little sachets. That, Léonie, is what Sr Marie of the Trinity told me to tell you, for I know very little about these things. On Sunday we’re celebrating a double Silver Anniversary, for Sr Marie-Henriette of Jesus, the Procuratrix, and Sr Marie of the Cross, one of the Lay Sisters who nursed Sr Marie of the S. H. so devotedly. September 8th will be the fiftieth anniversary of Thérèse’s Profession. Cardinal Suhard will be there.

The 7th is “Little Mother’s” birthday. She will enter her 80th year. She would be pleased if you sent her a note.

Best wishes to your dearest Mother.

With my love

Sr Geneviève of the Holy Face u.c.n.
