Dearest little Léonie,

I’m hastily writing you a note to tell you that the pictures commemorating the fiftieth anniversary of little Thérèse’s Profession (8th September) left this morning, so you can distribute them to your Community on the 30th. Our Mother would have written to you for Thérèse’s feast day as usual, but she is at the bedside of a dying Sister who has been in agony since 6 o’clock this morning (it’s now 11 o’clock). It’s Sr Madeleine of Jesus, the nurse. She is dying of uraemia. She is 66. She was a very fervent nun, and was in the novitiate with me. She joined in 1898 after Thérèse died. She’s the one who came to the exhumation with me. We recommend her and us to your prayers.

Dear little sister, what can I tell you? Death, that very real moment in life, won’t be long in coming for us, because old age is an indication of imminent departure. But this thought doesn’t make time seem to go any faster. We’ve waited so long!!!

I send you my love and kisses, dear little sister, my beloved and cherished Léonie. Soon we’ll be in heaven!

Your little sister Sr Geneviève of the Holy Face

Give my affectionate regards to your dearest Mother.

I’m very glad to have a photo of you. It brought us so much pleasure to have a glimpse of what you look like now.
