From Céline to Jeanne La Néele

                                                                              7th Oct. 1919 Tuesday

           Dear little Jeanne,

Cardinal Vico is arriving on Saturday evening. He will say Mass here at 8 o’clock on Sunday. His Eminence will sleep at the Providence in the ? quarters. The nuns came today in search of his insignia, which we don’t have. They want to decorate his room. We do too, which is why I’m going to ask you if you could lend us the red silk curtains that we gave back to you. Please send the matching tiebacks with them. Pierre will fetch them tomorrow, Wednesday or Thursday, and then he will go back on Saturday for the armchair and usual chairs for the throne.

This will cause you some bother, poor little Jeanne. Alas, life here below is full of it.

We in the depths of our wilderness are constantly reminded of this, but one day we’ll go to heaven.

I love you deeply, that is to say with all my heart

Sr G.
