             Dear little sister,

I’m very grateful to you for being so concerned about me. My neuralgia hasn’t gone and is very painful, but this morning I put such a thick layer of iodine on the 3 sore spots that it has deadened the pain, and I’m feeling better. Tomorrow I will be just as ruthless.

I don’t think that pulling my teeth out would bring me any relief, because the pain is in my jaw bones.

Still, that’s enough about me. Thank you for the books; they brought back a flood of memories. What a long time they have been on the little shelf in the study!

If you unearth anything else, send it to me. We are very lucky that you have such a good memory . . . and such a good heart! Your last visit left us with a lovely warm family feeling.

I send my love, little sister

       Your little Céline
